Norway: Cargotec to Supply Kleven with MacGregor Crane

Cargotec has secured a substantial new contract from Norwegian company Kleven Maritime. Delivery includes a 400-tonne MacGregor active heave-compensated offshore crane with an outreach of 15m. A second smaller crane, which will have a safe working load of 100-tonnes at 9m outreach, is also included in the contract. The 400-tonne unit will have its winch installed below the working deck.

The cranes are scheduled for delivery at the beginning of 2014. This order has been booked to Cargotec’s second quarter 2012 order intake.

Both cranes are equipped for subsea operations down to 3,000m and have been ordered for an advanced subsea offshore construction vessel (OCV) being built for Eidesvik Offshore.

“Offshore vessels have to operate in deeper and deeper waters, and loads are getting heavier too,” says Frode Grovan, Cargotec’s Sales and Marketing Director for Advanced Load Handling. “We have recognised the need to support the growing demand for these big offshore construction vessels.”

The cranes are also equipped for cold-climate operations and will be delivered with a MacGregor ‘Arctic package’. “Ensuring that these types of OCVs are capable of performing their tasks safely and efficiently in the challenging Arctic offshore environment requires specialised solutions,” says Mr Grovan. “Our equipment therefore includes components and design features specifically aimed at ensuring this performance, along with providing comfortable conditions for personnel working in heavy-ice environments at extremely low temperatures.”

The 145m SALT 301 OCV was designed by Salt Ship Design and is being built at Kleven Verft; an option remains for a sistership delivery in spring 2015. “Once delivered this OCV will be one of the largest and most advanced ships of its type,” he adds.

66kV Offshore Wind 2015

The only networking event on 66kV array grids.

66kV Offshore Wind is a technical event for experts in the wind industry. The goal is to provide a clear path to commercial implementation of 66kV array grids. By exploring developer requirements, WTG capabilities and equipment certification, we hope to reduce both uncertainty and time to implementation for 66kV offshore wind.

The conference aims to:

  • Evaluate project requirements to select 66kV inter-arrays
  • Explore turbine requirements for use in 66kV systems
  • Review certification procedures for higher voltage equipment
  • Evaluate the technology and cost impacts on transformers, cables and switchgears
  • Understand the need for reactive power compensation in offshore substations
