Search for Flight MH370 in Southern Indian Ocean Underway

The search and recovery operation of Flight MH370 continued today after HMAS Success returned to the search area.

HMAS Success is conducting a surface sweep of an area identified by the Royal Australian Air Force P3 Orion as the location for several objects of interest.

AMSA informed that China’s polar supply ship Xue Long also joined the search along with 12 aircraft.

The search, which is split into three areas covering a cumulative 80,000 square kilometres, will be conducted by five civil aircraft and seven military aircraft.

A total of 34 State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers from Western Australia are deployed as air observers on board the five civil aircraft.

Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Japan, China and the Republic of Korea are assisting in the search and recovery operations.
