'Olympus Taurus' Installs More than Half Inter-array Cables at DanTysk OWF

The Olympus Taurus multipurpose vessel from VSMC has completed the installation of more than half of inter-array cables at DanTysk offshore wind farm.

A cable of a 145 mm diameter will transport the electricity from turbines to the offshore substation.

The 80 turbines are organized in eight strings to decrease power losses in the collector system and to achieve greater reliability.

Until now the cable that Olympus Taurus has laid is enough to connect around 40 turbines to the substation.

The DanTysk offshore wind farm, situated west of the island of Sylt and directly on the German-Danish border, will be one of the first large-scale offshore wind farms ever to be built in the German North Sea.

66kV Offshore Wind 2015

The only networking event on 66kV array grids.

66kV Offshore Wind is a technical event for experts in the wind industry. The goal is to provide a clear path to commercial implementation of 66kV array grids. By exploring developer requirements, WTG capabilities and equipment certification, we hope to reduce both uncertainty and time to implementation for 66kV offshore wind.

The conference aims to:

  • Evaluate project requirements to select 66kV inter-arrays
  • Explore turbine requirements for use in 66kV systems
  • Review certification procedures for higher voltage equipment
  • Evaluate the technology and cost impacts on transformers, cables and switchgears
  • Understand the need for reactive power compensation in offshore substations
