Harkand Wraps Up Trinidad and Tobago Campaign for BPTT

Harkand has completed an inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) campaign for BP Trinidad and Tobago (BPTT) utilising the ‘Harkand Da Vinci’ diving support vessel (DSV) and the company’s new hyperbaric rescue facility (HRF) in the Caribbean.

The IRM scope included deadleg inspection of BPTT offshore assets, pipeline intervention, caisson repair works, platform and pipeline clamps installation and inspection and recovery of a caisson section. Harkand provided a full suite of services including saturation and surface diving, ROV, survey, inspection as well as project management and engineering for the execution of the campaign.

This was also the first project for the new HRF built by Harkand in the Gulf of Mexico in August 2015. The HRF was set up in Chaguaramas on the North West peninsula of Trinidad for the campaign, the company noted.

John Reed, Harkand chief executive officer said: “Securing this contract with BP Trinidad and Tobago was a significant win in the region. The work involved an array of specialist subsea services and engineering, cementing our track record in the area.”

Reed added: “This work followed successful campaigns by both the Houston and Aberdeen operation bases in the Caribbean during 2014 and 2015 for major global oil and gas operators. We are extremely pleased to add BPTT to our client base in the area.”

The Harkand Da Vinci is equipped with a 140 Te active heave compensated (AHC) crane, an 18-man twin bell saturation diving system rated to 300 metre water depth, one 3-man wet bell and one 2-man surface diving system. The vessel was mobilised with two remotely operated vehicles (ROV) – one light work class and one inspection class ROV.

UTC 2017

The subsea industry has, as all other parts of the oil & gas industry, been seriously rattled by the most severe downturn in the hydrocarbon energy era. However, the realization of what hit us and actions to be taken to sustain a healthy and profitable future is still on-going – unfortunately with thousands of colleagues paying the price by losing their job as one of the most severe consequences. At this time, there are signs that we have reached bottom in terms of most industry indicators, but few experts expect a sharp recovery. Many seem to believe that a slow recovery is what the industry needs in order to avoid an unsustainable capacity build-up, as seen in the period after the financial crisis. Considering the uncertainty of what the future will bring, this year’s UTC Program Committee have decided to challenge all of us to present ideas, experiences, technological innovations, business models and execution models for how to shape our subsea future and explain how and why subsea is the future.
UTC welcomes abstracts based on the topics listed below. If selected, please consider writing a paper in addition to the UTC presentation. From 2017, UTC papers will be published in an international database.
