Siemens Subsea Axes More Jobs at Ulverston

Siemens has said it plans further job reductions at the Siemens Subsea business in Ulverston.

This is part of a global reduction affecting the Siemens Subsea businesses in Norway, USA and Brazil.

Siemens Subsea, which manufactures subsea connector and measurement technology, has experienced low customer orders and is expecting the market to remain flat in 2018. This has resulted in further efficiencies being required to achieve a smaller organization appropriately sized for the current and projected market.

Siemens said today that with great regret the proposed changes would mean that up to 36 jobs are to be put at risk in the Ulverston site.

Today’s announcement comes only five months after a similar restructuring in the Siemens Subsea business in Ulverston and Aberdeen. Unfortunately the downturn in market conditions has continued for longer and is more severe than anticipated.

Mike Henry, general manager, Siemens Subsea, Ulverston said; “I am deeply sorry about the impact of further reductions to our hardworking and dedicated team in Ulverston. I am committed to minimizing compulsory redundancies and we will invite applications for voluntary redundancy from across the Subsea business. We will provide support and redeployment opportunities wherever possible within the wider Siemens organisation.”

The proposed changes are expected to take place by the end of October 2017.
