Oceanology International China 2013 Opens Its Doors

The inaugural Oceanology International China is to be held 3-5 September 2013 at INTEX, Shanghai. Organised by Reed Exhibitions whose long-running OI Oceanology International – the world’s largest exhibition for marine science and science technology – is held biennially at London’s ExCeL, Oceanology International China 2013 is endorsed by the Chinese Society of Oceanography Ocean Observation Technology Branch (CSO Ocean Observation Technology Branch), and is already attracting major exhibitors including Teledyne Marine, Marine Electronics, Valeport, iXblue and Wildlife Acoustics.

The new event will be the only forum in Asia where industry, academia and government share knowledge and connect with the marine technology and ocean science community, improving their strategies for measuring, exploiting, protecting and operating in the world’s oceans.

“We are developing Oceanology International China 2013 with government and industry associations,” explains Exhibition Director, James Coleman of Reed Exhibitions. “China’s rapidly growing offshore energy and marine industry are reason enough to hold this new event and companies are already reserving their space in order to capitalise on this growth. Importantly too the state government is committed to thoroughly exploring the country’s vast marine potential. China’s most recent five-year plan – the 12th Five-Year Plan – was the first ever to include a dedicated chapter on marine development.

“Feedback from exhibitors who have already reserved space is highly encouraging. For example, Kevin Edwards, Sales & Marketing Manager of Valeport puts it simply and succinctly: ‘OI China is the perfect platform for Valeport’s expanding business in the region; this is a much needed event.’ Lucy Xi, Sales & Marketing Manager at iXblue’s Beijing office explains: ‘The Chinese marine industry looks forward to Oceanology International taking place in London every two years as the event at which to find all the latest developments. Now that Oceanology International is launching an event in China, the potential to penetrate this marine market is huge. We certainly have great expectations and we plan to achieve new business at this event, which is set to be the new meeting place for the whole industry in Asia’; while Wildlife Acoustics Director of Sales and Marketing, Mona Doss says: ‘Wildlife Acoustics sprung on the chance to exhibit at OI China. Launching from the success of OI London, OI China is the perfect place for us to expand business into a new geography’.”

Chinese boost for oceanography

Edwin Tan, Senior Vice President, Reed Exhibition China explains: “China is firmly established among the ranks of preferred partners for nations wishing to conduct joint oceanography expeditions; and in its last five-year budget (March 2011), the government boosted funding for oceanography, particularly in exploration, research and deep-sea techniques.

“To help understanding of the Chinese market, we have just published a fact sheet with a series of fascinating details about the country’s marine science status; on Shanghai – home of some of China’s most dense clusters of marine science and maritime academia, research and commercial development; and with further details on the show and our plans. It can be found online at www.oceanologyinternational.com/china.”

World class conference planned

Oceanology International China 2013 will feature a full conference programme developed with industry partners, that will cover the latest technology and service developments and how they cater to the changing requirements of the many industries the event serves.
