Wave Energy Device to Power Marine Harvest Scotland’s Salmon Farm
Marine Harvest Scotland has applied for permission to install a wave energy converter near the Isle of Muck to power its salmon farm.
The Scotsman quoted Chris Read, Marine Harvest’s environmental manager as saying: “This is a very exciting development with huge potential. Our environment in Scotland makes us a natural home for both salmon farming and wave energy and this could prove to be a winning combination.”
The device which is planned for the project is known as WaveNET, and will be held in place with 160m mooring legs.
Six SQUIDs will be the individual modules of the generator and each of them with the capacity of 7.5 KW.
AlbaTERN will construct the device, which will be installed on a farm unveiled in 2010.
The project is a part of Marine Harvest Scotland’s £80m investment programme.
