Work Starts on Submarine Cable Project Between Phu Quoc Island and Ha Tien Town
A submarine cable project between the inland of Ha Tien Town and the PhuQuoc Island of the Mekong Delta province of KienGiang broke ground on Sunday.
As tuoitrenews reports that the subsea cable system is carried out under an engineering, procurement, and construction contract signed between Electricity of Vietnam Corporation’s Southern Power Corp (EVN SPC) and PrysmianPowerlink.
The cable is 55.8km long and has a capacity of 110KV. Linking Ha Tien Town and the PhuQuoc Island the cable is the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia.
Total investment in the project is approximately VND2.36 trillion (US$111.32 million).
According to the Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang, the cable, which is funded by the loan from World Bank and with EVN SPC’s own budget, will become operational in January 2014.
