Moray First Recover Marine Scotland’s Current Meter with Free Swimming ROV

Moray First Marine, a workboat and ROV operations company based in Lossiemouth on the Moray Firth coast of Scotland, completed an impressive feat recently as they recovered a Marine Scotland current meter from a depth of 170m with their free swimming Sub Atlantic Mojave ROV.

Working from the NLV Polestar, the Moray First Marine team had been carrying out routine recovery work for Marine Scotland, the Scottish Government directorate responsible for the integrated management of Scottish seas, when they successfully completed the recovery of the current meter in a deepwater channel off the island of Cana on Scotland’s west coast.

Company owner and experienced ROV pilot, Bill Ruck highlighted his team’s experience as being key to a safe and successful recovery. “Work at this depth is very rarely carried out by a free swimming ROV so to complete the recovery successfully and safely with our fairly small Mojave was a great achievement for us and is testament to our vast and varied offshore knowledge and experience.

The Moray First Marine team brings together more than 18 years offshore ROV experience as well as a qualified ROV supervisor and they have successfully completed projects throughout Scotland and in a diverse field of industry sectors including offshore oil and gas, renewables, aquaculture and television work. In addition to their wide-ranging ROV experience, Moray First Marine were also the first company to operate a workboat in the Moray Firth and currently operate three vessels from their Lossiemouth base.
