UK: Siemens Subsea Hosts New Intake of Apprentices

Siemens Subsea in Ulverston, Cumbria is hosting, for the second year running, the welcome programme for the latest crop of apprentices. These new apprentices will join Siemens businesses across the North of England, including Ulverston, Manchester, Leeds and Congleton.

Siemens Subsea is also taking on a record 16 apprentices this year. The apprentices will all start this month. Siemens is one of the UK’s leading apprenticeship employers and has over 400 apprentices on its programme, which also includes Higher Apprenticeships. Competition is tough for this much-prized programme and the new apprentices have already gone through an intensive programme to be awarded a Siemens apprenticeship.

Martin Hottass, general manager Siemens Professional Education, said: “We are delighted to welcome this year’s apprentices into the business. Engineering and Manufacturing figure high in the UK’s industrial strategy and continuing to invest in and attract new talent is a top priority for Siemens as a leading UK employer.

As a business we invest heavily in skills and training in the UK and apprenticeships are at the centre of our training approach. Apprenticeships are a proven and sustainable way to nurture engineering talent in the long-term and have huge benefits for the economy, for business and for employees.”

The three day programme will take place at the Brathay Trust in Ambleside and will provide an introduction to Siemens and its businesses as well as the apprenticeship framework.

Wayne Singleton, HR Business partner for Siemens Subsea, said: “I am delighted that we’re able to host the new intake of apprentices from the North of England for the second year running. It’s fantastic that we’re able to introduce these young people to our company, in an amazing environment like Brathay, situated on the shores of Lake Windermere. The apprentices will go through two and a half days worth of induction, and team development that’s intended to give them personal development, networking opportunities and activity that should help them get the best possible start to working with Siemens.”
