DCNS, OpenHydro to Showcase at Ocean Energy Europe 2014
DCNS, a partner of the Ocean Energy Europe conference, the European forum for the sector, which is taking place on 1st and 2nd October 2014 in Paris, will present its expertise in marine energy.
Marine energy is a sector in which the Group has been investing since 2008 resulting in several successes, in particular in the tidal energy, through its subsidiary OpenHydro, and ocean thermal energy fields.
The emerging market of MRE has been marked in recent months by increasing activity in the public and private sectors. Thanks to the mobilization of governments, energy companies and industrial leaders, demonstrator projects and pilot farms have been set up. These projects will precede the development of future commercial farms. DCNS is involved in some of these projects which are the natural result of the work carried out by the Group since 2008.
In tidal energy, OpenHydro, a DCNS company, has developed an innovative turbine and has already established commercial partnerships with several clients across the world.
In France, on the pilot site of Paimpol-Bréhat (Brittany), DCNS and OpenHydro will install in 2015 two 16-metres tidal turbines on behalf of EDF. These turbines will be connected to the power grid.
In Canada, OpenHydro is working in partnership with energy company EMERA to develop a 4-MW tidal energy demonstration project to be in place in 2015.
