AWI Scientist Recognised by Werner Petersen Foundation

AWI deep-sea expert Prof. Dr. Antje Boetius was honoured with the special professorship of the Werner Petersen foundation.

This award is worth 20 000 Euro and includes a guest professorship at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel, Germany.

Prof. Dr. Antje Boetius Antje Boetius studied biology in Hamburg and at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography with emphasis Biological Oceanography.

Since December 2009, Boetius is the director of a joint working group of the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research and the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology.

GEOMAR director, Peter Herzig, said in his award speech: “Antje Boetius is not just an outstanding scientist, who uses innovative methods to answer important research questions. She also spends a lot of time and effort to communicate her research results to the public.”
