Alewijnse in ‘Nexus’ Electrical Setup

Alewijnse in 'Nexus' Electrical Setup

The new cable-laying vessel ‘Nexus’, built by Damen Shipyards Group for a Dutch offshore contractor Van Oord, is getting its final touches by marine technology provider Alewijnse Marine Systems.

Namely, according to Alewijnse, the Nexus is now in Flushing, where the company is currently working on the electrical installations and system integration for the cable laying equipment.

Van Oord’s new cable layer got its, more than a 5000 tones capacity, cable carousel and a 170 mton knuckle boom crane on January 19, 2015 at the BOW Terminal in the Nederlands.

Alewijnse Marine Systems secured a contract for the full electrical installation and systems integration on board the 126 metres long Nexus in October 2013. The workscope also included the installation of the propulsion drives and motors that make up the 112 metre vessel’s powerful diesel-electric DP2 system.

As mentioned upon delivery, in December last year, the vessel is intended for the installation of electricity cables for offshore wind farms.

After final integration, the vessel is expected to get into action and support Van Oord’s Gemini offshore wind farm project.
