Seismic Vessel ‘Polar Empress’ Named in Norway
GC Rieber’s new seismic vessel Polar Empress was named today at Myklebust Verft.
Back in 2013, Kleven signed a NOK 700 million shipbuilding contract with GC Rieber Shipping, which also includes an option for a second vessel.
Upon delivery, the 324 XT Skipsteknisk-design vessel will enter a five-year charter with Dolphin Geophysical. Dolphin has options to extend the charter for up to six years after the firm period.
Polar Empress is an advanced seismic vessel with 22 streamers and ice-class 1A*. According to Norwegian vessel owner GC Rieber, it’s a further development of the company’s design, currently used for Polar Duke and Polar Duchess.
The 112.6 meters long vessel, with beam of 21.5 meters, is thus far the largest seismic vessel Myklebust Verft has delivered.
The vessel has accommodation capacity for 70 persons.
