40 Jobs at Risk as Østensjø Rederi Re-Flags 5 Ships

Edda Freya will also be registered in NIS instead of Malta as originally planned.

Østensjø Rederi has decided to change ship’s register for five of its offshore vessels due to the market conditions and reduced earnings.

The Haugesund-based vessel owner is switching to Norwegian International Ship Register or NIS for the following vessels: Edda Fauna, Edda Flora, Edda Fonn, Edda Ferd and the newbuild Edda Freya.

The decision has been made in consultation with employee representatives. “Both the company and the union representatives consider NIS as a preferred solution rather than a foreign flag,” the company said.

Re-flagging of these vessels to NIS will result in redundancies of about 40 people. Nevertheless, the company hopes that new possible contracts could reduce this number.

The actual process of re-flagging and implementations of redundancies should be made gradually during the summer and autumn.
