Seaway Heavy Lifting Gets Beatrice Installation Job

Offshore contractor Seaway Heavy Lifting will carry out offshore installation activities as part of the $1.3-billion EPCI contract Subsea 7 won from Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited (BOWL).

Subsea 7, which holds 50 per cent stake in Seaway Heavy Lifting, said on Monday that the Beatrice offshore wind farm work includes the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the turbine foundations and array cables, and the transport and installation of transmission modules.

Reportedly, project management and engineering has already started at Seaway Heavy Lifting’s offices in Glasgow, Scotland, and Zoetermeer, the Netherlands, and at Subsea 7’s office in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Offshore installation activities are scheduled to be executed in 2017 and 2018 using Seaway Heavy Lifting’s heavy lift vessels, Stanislav Yudin and Oleg Strashnov.

Jan Willem van der Graaf, CEO of Seaway Heavy Lifting, said: “The Beatrice project is a major step forward in achieving our ambition to be a leading EPCI contractor in the offshore renewables industry. We are proud that BOWL has chosen Seaway Heavy Lifting and Subsea 7 for the planning, design and safe execution of the foundation and cable lay work for their Beatrice offshore wind farm.”

The Beatrice offshore wind farm will be located in the Outer Moray Firth. The 588 Megawatt offshore wind farm comprises 84 wind turbines on pre-piled jacket substructures. The power will be collected on two offshore transmission modules via 33 kilovolt array cables and associated equipment. The development, once fully constructed and operational, should provide energy equivalent to the needs of approximately 470,000 homes.
