Docomo Pacific Finalizes Marine Surveys for ATISA Cable
Docomo Pacific has completed marine surveys for the undersea path of ATISA submarine cable leading to the cable landing sites on Guam, Saipan, Rota, and Tinian, which is the next step in the route selection process.
“The selection process was a joint team effort by representatives from NEC Corporation, Duenas, Camacho and Associates (DCA), and Docomo Pacific. Our 3-part marine survey works to ensure that the laying of the fiber optic cable will minimize disturbance of the undersea environment to the greatest extent possible. This would not be possible without local, federal, and environmental agency assistance,” said Liezl Balan, Docomo Pacific’s project manager for ATISA.
UK-based Titan Environmental Surveys, a division of Gardline Marine Sciences, conducted the inshore and deep water surveys using the vessel M/V Duke.
“Getting in the water is a critical milestone for project ATISA. Through the great team effort of our partners, NEC and DCA, as well as our Docomo Pacific associates, Project ATISA remains on schedule for a mid-2017 launch,” said Jonathan Kriegel, president & CEO of Docomo Pacific.
Following the completion of inshore and offshore pre-surveys in late June, a closer inspection of the route was conducted in early July by independent divers, who followed the intended routes to document any potential environmental impacts.
