Statoil Gets Nod to Drill Johan Sverdrup Survey Wells

Statoil has received consent from Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway to drill four survey wells at Johan Sverdrup field, located on the Utsira Height in the North Sea.

The Johan Sverdrup field, operated by Statoil, has been developed using four fixed facilities connected by bridges, in addition to three subsea water injection templates.

The PSA has given Statoil consent to drill four survey wells in order to obtain information about the reservoir conditions in the field. Consent has been given in the form of two decisions: one for one of the wells and one for the other three.

Drilling is scheduled to begin on November 01, 2016, and will last around four months.

The wells will be drilled using a semi-submersible drilling facility, Deepsea Atlantic, supplied by Daewoo of South Korea in 2009.

Production from the field is expected to begin in late 2019.

The Johan Sverdrup partnership consists of Statoil, Lundin Norway, Petoro, Det norske oljeselskap and Maersk Oil.
