Technip’s latest newbuild, the diving support vessel (DSV) Deep Explorer, was officially named on Saturday November 12, in Norway.

The naming ceremony was held at VARD’s Langsten shipyard. The vessel godmother was Heidi Brovoll-Bø, wife of Knut Bø, president of Technip’s North Sea Canada region.

DOF Subsea, a subsidiary of DOF Group, reported profit for the third quarter 2016 (Q3 2016) of NOK 170 million ($20 million), compared with loss of NOK 312 million ($37 million) in the corresponding period in 2015.

In the 3rd quarter 2016, the Bergen-based company had operating income of NOK 1.13 billion versus NOK 1.9 billion in 3rd quarter 2015. DOF Subsea reported operating income of NOK 4.1 billion for the first nine months of 2016, versus NOK 5.32 billion last year.

Siemens Subsea employees have been notified that the company is proposing a global business restructuring in order to adjust to current market situation.

Specifically, the proposed changes would mean that up to 52 jobs are to be put at risk in the Ulverston site and up to 6 jobs similarly affected in Aberdeen. In addition, the proposed global restructure also affects Siemens Subsea Norway operation, where the Kongsberg facility will be closed.

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), NTT World Engineering Marine Corporation (NTTWEM) and NTT Finance Corporation (NTT Finance) have jointly held a launching ceremony for their new submarine cable laying vessel ‘Kizuna’ at Kanrei Shipyard in Tokushima, Japan.

Construction of the 8,500 ton ship, which measures 109 meters in length and 20 meters in width, and which will have a planned average cruising speed of 13 knots and a capacity of up to 60 crew, will be completed by the end of fiscal year 2016, NTT Com informed.

Platform supply vessel operator, Fletcher, is said to be looking into services expansion following ROV operations and boulder clearance for the renewables industry.

The diversification process sees Colin Millum brought in to head up the technical team, amongst other new recruits. Fletcher will provide seabed preparation service, including survey and boulder clearance, UXO identification and de-risk and cable intervention.
