Second Well Intervention Vessel Joins Siem Offshore’s Fleet

Siem Offshore’s second well intervention vessel Siem Helix 2 has joined the company’s fleet on December 21, 2016.

The vessel was delivered to the company at Flensburger Schiffsgebau, Germany, Siem Offshore informed through social media.

Siem Helix 2 joins its sister vessel Siem Helix 1 as the largest and most complex vessel ever delivered to Siem Offshore, the company said.

The vessel is built in compliance with the Marine Offshore Drilling Units (MODU) class.

The vessel has a length of 158 meters, a beam of 31 meters and an accommodation capacity for 150 people.

Siem Helix 1 and Siem Helix 2 were chartered by the Helix Energy Solutions in 2014 for an initial period of 7 years, with options to extend the charter up to 22 years.

Helix also agreed with Petrobras to provide well intervention services offshore Brazil for an initial period of 4 years with options to extend.

The contract for the Siem Helix 1, originally scheduled to begin no later than July 22, 2016, was amended to start between July 22, 2016 and October 21, 2016, and the day rate under the contract has been reduced to a level acceptable to both parties.

The contract for the Siem Helix 2, originally scheduled to begin no later than January 21, 2017, was amended to start between October 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. The day rate under this contract was not changed.
