Boskalis Drops 230 HQ Staff

Dutch marine services player Royal Boskalis Westminster has said it plans to make redundant around 230 employees at its head office in Papendrecht.

The headcount reduction is a result of the previously initiated study into the costs of its head office organization, due to as the company said deteriorated market circumstances and the expected long spell of low energy prices.

With this move, Boskalis said it aims total cost savings of 30-35 million euros as part of its restructuring plan which should be implemented in the next 18 months.

The reduction will be absorbed through attrition and redeployment where possible, but compulsory redundancies cannot be ruled out, the company noted.

The company had already initiated a fleet rationalization and cost reduction program, which was implemented in 2016 and an impairment charge was taken on the offshore fleet and goodwill.

Boskalis said it has requested the formal opinion of the Works Council with regard to this intended decision.
