Scaldis Takes Delivery of New Crane Vessel from Royal IHC

Royal IHC has handed over DP2 crane vessel ‘Gulliver’ to Scaldis, a subsidiary of DEME, Jan de Nul and Herbosch-Kiere.

IHC managed the complete scope of work for the vessel, including the design, procurement, construction in China, and commissioning and acceptance tests in Rotterdam.

The design was drawn up in-house in cooperation with Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam on the basis of the extensive heavy lift experience of Scaldis.

The vessel will be used for the installation of offshore infrastructures and decommissioning/deconstruction activities for the oil and gas industry as well as the installation of offshore wind farms.

The ship will also perform other types of marine related heavy lifting work, such as the construction of bridge components and clearing subsea obstacles, the company said.

The Gulliver vessel, with a length of 108.00 meters and a beam of 50.90 meters, is equipped with two cranes with a lifting capacity of 2,000 ton each. The position of the cranes can be moved by 25 meters on the ship (skidding), which allows the deck space to be used to transport and then relocate cargo at a later stage.
