Prysmian Lands Chilean Subsea Cable Deal

Prysmian Group has received new contracts worth around €50 million by Gtd Teleductos, a Chilean telecom operator, to develop a turnkey repeater-less submarine cable system connecting Arica to Puerto Montt in Chile.

The contracts have been secured through the submarine telecom division NSW, which became part of Prysmian following the acquisition of General Cable.

This contract represents a significant milestone for Prysmian Group as it is the first submarine telecom interconnection project obtained after the acquisition of General Cable. It marks Prysmian’s return to this business,” said Hakan Ozmen, EVP Project BU, Prysmian Group. “This project is a further proof of the excellent quality of our cables. It not only confirms that Prysmian Group is a preferred partner of choice for submarine projects, but also that it is committed to supporting the development of innovative network infrastructures worldwide.”

The project involves the design, supply and installation of more than 3,550 km of repeater-less fibre optic submarine cables.

Prysmian will supply 11 cable segments of a length ranging from 135 km to more than 400 km. The cables will be produced at Prysmian’s production facility in Nordenham, Germany.

Delivery of cables is planned by December 2019.

We are honoured to work with the Chilean Grupo for the third time. This new project confirms once again the trust Grupo Gtd places in Prysmian to deliver high-quality submarine projects. Thanks to its cutting-edge submarine cable products and highly experienced team, Prysmian can provide the most efficient and cost-effective turnkey solutions to its global customers,” stated Ashutosh Bhargava, Submarine Telecom BU director, Prysmian Group.
