JDR Supplies Inter-Array Cables for Denmark’s Kriegers Flak OWF

JDR Cables, part of the TFKable Group, has signed a cable contract with Vattenfall for the Danish Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm.

JDR will manufacture more than 170 kilometers of aluminium core inter-array cables and a range of termination accessories.

The cable will be assembled in JDR’s Hartlepool facility, with project completion expected in 2021.

The inter-array cables connecting the turbines will carry the clean generated electricity to an offshore substation, for transmission to shore. The offshore wind generation is a 33kV cable designed system.

The Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm, located 15 kilometers east of the Danish coast in the Southern part of the Baltic Sea, will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm, incorporating 72 turbines of 8.4 MW with an installed capacity of 605 MW.

When fully operational, the wind farm has the capacity to supply over 600,000 Danish households with renewable energy – equivalent to 23 per cent of all households in Denmark.

Mike Lovell, sales director Renewables at JDR, said: “We are extremely proud to be awarded this landmark contract, which highlights our world-leading expertise in the supply of specialist subsea power cables to the offshore energy industry. JDR’s track record for innovation cemented the deal and will help to drive cheaper energy for consumers. We are looking forward to the development of Danish Kriegers Flak and continuing our collaboration with Vattenfall in the future.”
