TAP Welcomes Italian Minister’s Decision to Promote Private Investment

In a recent interview with CNN, Corrado Passera, Italian Minister for Economic Development, Infrastructure and Transport announced that Italy is launching a major effort to promote private investment.

Minister Passera underlined attracting “major infrastructure projects that pay for themselves” as one key objective for the Italian government, along with the simplification of authorisation mechanisms to support their deployment.

Kjetil Tungland, Managing Director of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), commented: “TAP welcomes Minister Passera’s pledge to attract private investment for major infrastructure projects in Italy. Being 100% privately funded, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline fully meets Italy’s requirement for infrastructure projects that don’t require public funds. At the same time, TAP will ensure a new, direct, gas supply route from the Caspian region, in line with Italy’s energy diversification strategy. We’re convinced that Italy’s commitment to simplify authorisation procedures for projects like TAP will bring huge benefits for the country’s economic development and would encourage the government to act quickly to secure their advantage.”
