3sun Recognized in Innovator Category at British Renewable Energy Awards

3sun Group, a specialist provider of products and services to the energy industry received a ‘highly commended’ in the Innovator category at the British Renewable Energy Awards 2013.

Winners were announced at a prestigious black tie ceremony on Thursday (13 June) at The Jumeirah Carlton, London. The awards recognise outstanding achievements across the British renewables energy sector.

3sun Group received the commendation in the Innovator category in recognition of its ground-breaking electronic 3D visually based inspection system. The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tagging device has enhanced safety by reducing offshore-man hours, risk and costs.

Finalists at this year’s awards, 3sun Group were shortlisted for two categories. The Group were shortlisted in the Skills Development category in recognition of the time and money it dedicated to apprenticeship schemes, the opportunities it provided for local youngsters to gain experience, and the Group’s mentoring of young technicians.

3sun Group managing director Graham Hacon said: “We are extremely proud to receive highly commended in the Innovator category at this year’s British Renewable Energy Awards. It is a great achievement to be recognised on a national level and our success at the awards acknowledges the hard work and dedication of the whole team.

“Our electronic 3D visually based inspection system was developed in collaboration with Scottish & Southern Energy and aims to improve legislative compliance and safety standards on wind turbines.

“The RFID tagging and Handheld Software technology delivers a complete solution for the identification and inspection of offshore wind turbine components. It is proving very successful for our clients.”

“Since its inception, the company has grown significantly, with a start-up turnover of £1.5m, in just five years we have reached almost £12m and now employ 200 people. In response to growing demand for our products and services across the UK and Europe, we have also recently increased manpower with the creation of 100 new jobs.”

The British Renewable Energy Awards are now in their eighth year and will celebrate all that is outstanding in the renewable energy sector, in categories including Champion, Community, Skills development, Leadership and Pioneer.

3sun Group has headquarters in Great Yarmouth, England, and also bases in Oban, Aberdeen and in Bergen, Norway to support on-going rapid growth. It is also currently looking at other UK and overseas locations including a new facility in Esbjerg, Denmark.

3sun Group employs 200 staff offshore and onshore and is currently working on several projects in the UK and Europe. The Group has extensive overseas experience having worked in Europe, Asia, Africa, USA and New Zealand.
