Kongsberg Maritime and its subsidiary Hydroid, Inc., the leading manufacturer of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), have announced program details of their AUV Users Conference at the Villa Marigola in Lerici, Italy, from October 14 to 17, 2013.

The conference, which is open to both existing users of Kongsberg and Hydroid AUVs and those interested in learning more about AUV technology, will feature three full days of presentations from marine technology experts and AUV industry leaders.

“We’re proud to have brought together some of the greatest minds in the AUV industry for our users conference,” said Christopher von Alt, President and co-founder of Hydroid. “AUV technology has applications across a wide range of marine industries, including defense, research and resource exploration - our expert presenters will explain how users from any industry can utilize AUVs to their full effect.”

Topics and speakers at the AUV Users Conference will include:

• Future Military AUV Capabilities - Nils Strøkersen, Forsvarets forskningsinstitutt (FFI)

• Counter IED Lessons for Mine Countermeasures - Tom Reynolds, Hydroid

• Offshore Applications - Jamie Cheramie, C&C Technologies

• Pipeline Inspection with AUVs – Geir Espen Schmidt, Kongsberg Maritime

• Collaborative Operations with AUVs and ROVs – Doug Horner, US Naval Post-Graduate School

• Marine Research - Asgeir Sørensen, Norwegian University of Science and Technology

• Environmental Mapping in the Arctic - Petter Lågstad, FFI

• Operational Experiences of the German Navy with AUVs – Capt. Fritz Klocke, German Navy

The 2013 event follows the highly successful REMUS/HUGIN user conference in October 2010. The 2010 conference in San Diego brought together nearly 100 AUV users from nine countries to discuss topics including the 2009 search for Amelia Earheart’s plane and emerging AUV applications such as pipeline inspection and environmental monitoring.
