Decom North Sea to Host Lunch and Learn Event in Aberdeen, UK

Decom North Sea (DNS), the offshore oil and gas decommissioning forum, is hosting a lunch and learn event to give supply chain companies the opportunity to present their offshore decommissioning capabilities and encourage knowledge share among members.

It takes place on Wednesday, March 19, at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, Aberdeen, from 12-2pm.

The event will include a presentation from Claxton Engineering, a company providing a broad range of cutting and abandonment services using methodologies that have been deployed on more than 260 well abandonments and slot recoveries. The company has a wealth of experience in its field, and performed the world’s first rigless platform well abandonment more than a decade ago.

Matt Marcantonio, R&D manager at Claxton Engineering, said: “With demand for decommissioning services on the rise for coming years, we are excited to be able to share our capabilities with DNS and its member organisations. With a long history of decommissioning activity, we have a strong knowledge of the field and can assist in cutting services and other abandonment needs throughout the sector.”

The event will also feature a presentation from Jee Ltd, a leading independent subsea engineering and training firm which specialises in decommissioning and recently completed a large decommissioning close-out project with BP. Oil States Barrow, a specialist in remotely controlled subsea cutting technology, will also present.

A new feature of the regular lunch and learn events is the spotlight on new member slot. This month, it will focus on Sureclean, which recently won a three-year contract with Aker Solutions for the provision of waste management services during the first phase of decommissioning CNR International’s Murchison platform.

To continue its mission to encourage safe, efficient and cost-effective decommissioning activity across the North Sea, DNS has also opened bookings for Decom Offshore 2014, a one-day interactive event in Aberdeen to take place on May 27.

DNS has grown since its inception in 2010 to have more than 230 members drawn from operators, major contractors, service specialists and technology developers. With annual decommissioning expenditure in the North Sea heading upwards from the current £1billion within a few years, DNS was set up to tackle the main areas of weakness, which are inhibiting decommissioning supply-chain capability.
