British Antarctic Survey (BAS) has declared its second option for a one year extension of the bareboat charter for “RRS Ernest Shackleton”. The option will be effective from August 2015.

“RRS Ernest Shackleton” has been on a long-term charter with BAS since August 1999. BAS further holds three annual options to extend the bareboat charter.

The “Ernest Shackleton” is a polar research and subsea support vessel built in 1995 on the basis of long-term experience and accumulated in-house expertise in polar research and subsea support operations in the North Sea.

GC Rieber Shipping, headquartered in Bergen (Norway), currently operates 14 advanced special-purpose vessels for the subsea, ice/support and marine seismic segments, of which 11 are owned by the company.
