‘Admiral Vladimirsky’ Research Vessel Arrives at Port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky
After the oceanographic research vessel “Admiral Vladimirsky” left the port of Pevek 10 days ago, it arrived to the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky yesterday, October 13.
The Russian Navy’s Baltic Fleet (BF) vessel is conducting a circumnavigation and collecting oceanographic data.
During its Arctic Ocean expedition the crew of the vessel officially confirmed the discovery of a new island in the Laptev Sea and determined the exact coordinates of the island named Yaya.
During the transition from Pevek the crew of the research vessel discovered several new islands in the vicinity of Novaya Zemlya, together with previously unknown capes and straits.
“Admiral Vladimirsky” departed its homeport of Kronstadt on 18 August and until now it has passed through the Baltic, North and Barents Seas and the waters of the Northern Sea Route.
The vessel is scheduled to set sail to its homeport Vladivostok, the main base of the Pacific Fleet, on October 16, where it is due to arrive mid-next week.
