Oilfield services company, Expro, is set to showcase its latest PowerChokes® technology at the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from October 27-29, 2014.

Expro’s new Automatic Back Pressure (ABP) System uses their field-proven technology and software to effectively manage pressure allowing more efficient and faster drilling. Developed in-house to address the needs of the growing Performance Drilling Market, it can also be applied in flowback and clean-up, well testing and production operations.

ABP is a Pressure Set-Point System that allows the operator to accurately set the back pressure to maintain a constant wellbore pressure. With easy installation on a closed loop system, the ABP accurately manages pressure at the surface and makes the drilling process safer and more efficient.

The system controls eliminate the cyclic pressure on the wellbore, making drilling operations more efficient, and allowing for faster connection times. Using the system, pressure is directly maintained and the data is simultaneously logged allowing operators to be alerted if there are any issues. As a result, drilling operations are safer, more reliable and continuous.

Rick Todd, General Manager of PowerChokes®, comments: “The ABP will maintain set pressure within a very accurate window while the operator monitors the operation. As connections are made while drilling, and mud pumps cycle on and off, the ABP will control the choke to maintain a steady pressure on the well bore preventing damage to the reservoir and managing any influx to the well.

“Coupled with the Expro SCB Drilling Choke – an industry-standard in Managed Pressure Drilling operations – the System also allows operators to safely manage influx automatically during any operation.

“This technology is an important development in allowing Expro to service our client’s performance drilling needs and demonstrates our commitment to providing a holistic services package. We are delighted to be showcasing our latest offering at ATCE and reaching out to new markets in the US and Europe.”
