GDG Tests Tidal Turbine Foundation for OpenHydro

Geophysics Rock Project

GDG, an Irish based geotechnical engineering consultancy, have successfully completed Stage 1 of foundation testing for a tidal turbine project for OpenHydro.

GDG explored the interaction of the structure’s vertical self-weight and the horizontal environmental loading in order to optimise the turbine sub-base design, the company said in an email statement.

The workscope in Stage 1 included site selection, geotechnical investigations, ground interpretation, foundation design and installation, foundation testing methodology and data analysis.
