Intake Works LLC and The HDD Company Inc. have struck a collaboration deal to market subsea intakes for seawater desalination projects along the California coast and elsewhere.

Announced at the International Desalination Association World Congress in San Diego, the partnership markets under the Intake Works brand and strive to meet the global needs for low-turbid, clean water for desalination plants that does not interfere with the marine ecosystem. The technique exploits the advantages of trenchless expertise honed over 20 years of drilling and operational experience.

Building on the Intake Works’ knowledge of the market, the team anticipates an active fourth quarter of this year and has projects in the pipeline for the next two year.

The HDD Company is a subsidiary of The Crossing Company (Canada). It operates 27 HDD rigs in western North America. The HDD Company has installed pipelines and utilities for ocean outfalls, under rivers, ship channels, creeks, wetlands, buildings and highways.

Intake Works, based in Sacramento, is a developer of ‘under-the-sea’ intakes for desalination. The company provides low turbid clean water for desalination plants that does not interfere with the marine ecosystem. The company utilizes horizontal directional drilling techniques from shore and proprietary methods to insert micro-porous intakes below the seafloor.
