Kleven to Launch SS Nujoma Mining Vessel on Saturday

Debmarine Namibia’s diamond sampling and exploration vessel will be launched from the slipway at Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik on Saturday January 09, 2016.

Specialised for deep water mineral exploration, the vessel, of MT 6022 design, is scheduled to be delivered from the yard in June 2016.

Upon delivery from Kleven the vessel will sail to South Africa for final installation of key equipment.

The 113-meter diesel-electric powered vessel will have a displacement of 12,000 tonnes and will accommodate a crew of 80. It has a helicopter deck suitable for Sikorsky S61s.

The SS Nujoma was named after Namibia’s founding president, Dr. Sam Nujoma.

The mining vessel will be expected to remain on exploration operations for three years before returning to port for maintenance.
