Scientists Study Marine Life Damage from OWF in Westermost Rough
Scientists are studying damage caused to marine life from building offshore wind turbines off the East Yorkshire coast.
The studies are undertaken on a marine habitat at Westermost Rough as Dong Energy plans to build 35 offshore wind turbines in the area in 2014.
Scientists from the University of Hull and the Holderness Fishing Industry Group are involved in the studies, which will be repeated after the completion of the wind turbines project.
BBC quoted Dr Ralph Bublitz as saying: “The development is going to change and impact the habitat and the environment down there on the sea bed and the main question is how long it is going to take to recover.”
According to a representative from the fishing group, the wind turbine development scheme would disturb a prime lobster fishery.
Dong Energy, which is backing up the research, granted planning consent for 35 turbines in January.
