Mobily Plans to Build AAE-1 Submarine Cable

Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) announced the agreement to install a new submarine cable named AAE-1.

The agreement was signed in Hong Kong with 17 operators, and the cable is expected to link countries of the Far East to Europe through the Middle East and Africa.

The submarine cable will be layed over a distance of 25,000 km.

Arab News quoted Khalid Al- Kaf, Mobily’s MD and CEO, as saying: “Today, we are living in the transformation phase that will shift Mobily from a telecom company to data services provider. Today, we are building a brighter future for the company and our customers, as these agreements will have a significant impact on the achievement of this goal.

The cable linking Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the UAE, Qatar, Yemen, Djibouti, Egypt, Greece, Italy and France is expected to be finished in 2016.
