Norwegian IMR Invites Tenders for Supply of Cables for MUST System

The Norwegian Institute of Marine Research’s (IMR) has issued a tender invitation for the supply of new electro-optical cables.

The cables will be used for its MUST system on the “G.O. Sars” research vessel.

MUST (Multi-Usage System for Towed vehicle) is used for mapping and volume measurement of fish and zooplankton, and collecting information from a variety of sensors.

The multi-sensor system consists of a 5-channel synchronous sonar system, laser optical plankton measurer, video plankton measurement system, CTD probe, light meters, turbidity sensor, fluorescence sensor, compass and tilt and roll sensors.

Telemetry communication has been installed between the vehicle and the control unit on the boat where the transmission takes place via single-mode optical fibre.

The cable will also transfer the supply voltage to the vehicle, as well as acting as tow cable.

The deadline for the submission of tenders is August 21, 2014.

The value of the project was not disclosed.
