Opus Tiger Class Drillship Passes Second Round of Sea Trials
Photo: HHCSSC Shanghai Shipyard-built Opus Tiger-1 drillship has completed the 12-day second sea trial in East China Sea.
The trial, in water depth of some 82 meters, was focused on the mooring system and drilling system integrated acceptance test.
The drilling package, designed and manufactured by Honghua Group (HH), passed the test with a satisfactory result, consisting of subsea BOP lowering and retrieving, Trip in/Trip out and pipe handling endurance (Off-line activity), and VFD harmonic test with drawworks, mud pumps and top drive.
The “Tiger” drilling package developed by HH, with a drilling depth of 30,000 feet and an operating water depth of 3000-5000 feet, is according to the company, the first deep water floating drilling package designed and manufactured in China.
The ship is managed by Songa-Opus joint venture. It is self-propelled and is able to accommodate a 150-person crew.
