Dong Cuts Noise at Gode Wind

Dong Energy has informed that the foundations setup for the Gode Wind offshore wind farm project is moving forward according to plan.

According to the company, the last of the 97 foundations will be installed in a few weeks .

Despite foundations being 7.5 meters in diameter, targets for the noise reduction during construction have been met and are lower than the strict maximum of 160 decibels, allowed by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH).

The specified maximum sound level must be maintained within a radius of 750 meters in order to protect the marine animals, especially the protected harbor porpoise.

“This is a very special achievement,” says Trine Borum Bojsen, CEO of DONG Energy in Germany and responsible for the offshore wind sector. “The protection of marine species is of special concern.”

In order to cut the noise level during the installation process, the company used a large bubble curtain and a tailor-made soundproof pipe.

“The soundproof pipe helps with the installation of foundations, because it acts as a guide rail. We have used this system for the first time on our wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 1. The components that we use now have been technically modified again. This means that they now act even more sound-absorbing,” Borum Bojsen explained.
